Fine Arts
The Fall Musical is held in early November and is always a well-known show that features music, dance, and wonderful entertainment. Depending on the show selected, roles are available for students in elementary, middle school, and high school. Previous shows have included Annie, The Music Man, The Sound of Music, The King and I, and Beauty and the Beast. Auditions are held in late spring for the principle roles, and supporting roles are cast in early fall.
The Spring Drama is held in early April. It is written in-house and centers around themes of Christian living and faith. Roles for high school and middle school students are always open, with limited participation for elementary students. Auditions are held in December.
Students interested in participating in the performances without being onstage may offer assistance in behind-the-scenes work, such as lighting, sound, and stage crews.
Although not considered an extracurricular activity, music is an important part of the CPRS fine arts program. Music/choir classes are offered at every grade level. Some of our elementary students sing at the Mayor's Christmas Celebration at the Community of Christ Auditorium in Independence. High school choir students offer music ministry at local branches and participate in an annual competition at Worlds of Fun. All choirs offer music ministry through Christmas and spring concerts at CPRS.
